Two-time Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino credits former Vice President and former Minister of Sports Jaime David Fernández (2012-2016) with her becoming a runner and training for the 400m distance. In an interview with the morning talk show, El Gobierno de la Mañana on Z101 FM, Paulino said she also owes the medal to her coach, Cuban Yasser Perez. Perez described Paulino as a “super disciplined athlete.”
During the morning talk show, Paulino said that she had received an apartment from the Dominican government for a past regional games win, but that this was too small for her large family. The owner of Z101 radio station has promised to deliver a better home for the family.
Paulino is scheduled to receive around RD$10 million in cash for her medal-winning in Tokyo 2020.
