Botanical Gardens are 45 years old

One of the most beautiful places in the capital city of Santo Domingo (National District), the Botanical Gardens is celebrating a new anniversary. The garden was opened in 1976 and contains an incredible representation of the endemic and native flora, and tropical fauna.

The Botanical Gardens is named for botanist Rafael Maria Moscoso, who cataloged the flora of Hispaniola back in 1943. The gardens are now a very mature exhibit of the beauty of the vegetation of the Dominican Republic.

Throughout its years, the Botanical Gardens has maintained extensive educational programs focusing on horticulture and botany. The Botanical Gardens is the place where families take their children to see big turtles and butterflies, as well as every variety of tropical flower possible. The National District recreational center even has a Japanese garden, built and designed by Mamoru Matsunaga, who also remodeled the Monument in Santiago. It is a place that will take your breath away with its beauty.
