The authorities of Puerto Plata lined up last week to welcome the passengers of the Carnival, Mardi Gras, considered the most modern cruise ship in the world. The ship docked in Puerto Plata on its inaugural voyage from 31 July to 7 August 2021. The ship docked on 4 August 2021 at Amber Cove with 4,127 travelers and 1,764 crew on board, as reported in Arecoa. The Mardi Gras has capacity for 6,500 passengers.
Carnival cruises (Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic) are again sailing to Amber Cove and La Romana on the southeastern coast.
