Metro expansion tender is fast-tracked

The spokesperson for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) Gustavo Sanchez says that traffic bottlenecks are not a justified excuse to expedite the procurement procedures for the expansion of the Santo Domingo Metro. The Abinader administration has kept the country under a National State of Emergency that also allows for expedite contracting.

Jose Adolfo Herrera Acevedo, who presides the procurement committee of the Metro Office (Opret) justified the contracting saying the office had worked closely with the Procurement Agency for the tender. He said the fast-tracking is necessary in order to continue with the works underway for the Los Alcarrizos skylift.

The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is majority in Congress, meaning it has the votes to extend the National State of Emergency again and keep open the window for quick procurement procedures.
