
The Ministry of Defense announced it has shipped food and medicines to Haiti for the earthquake victims. Navy ships and Air Force aircraft have been traveling to Haiti with the dispatches of food and medicines.
The Ministry of Defense press release explains that the Social Plan of Social Assistance of the Presidency and the Economic Canteens of the government have made available for transport to Haiti 60.13 tons of food (9,478 units), such as canned sardines, cereals, rice, beans, oil, salami and pasta, along with medicines.
The Ministry of Defense has sent the cargo on the Coast Guard Cutter Orion GC-109 from Cabo Rojo to Jeremie Port. The Almirante Didiez Burgos has carried 37.90 tons (5,968 units) from Manzanillo in the north.
The Coast Guard Cutter ¨Centaurus¨GC-111 has shipped 12.70 tons (2,000 units). The GC-1O2 Betelgeuse is in Barahona and will be shipping additional relief cargo this week.
The Ministry of Defense explains that the San Isidro Air Base in eastern Santo Domingo is being used as a collection center for national and international aid. The supplies are then transported by military aircraft to the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti.
