Ministry of Public Health takes vaccination door to door

Since 17 July 2021, the Ministry of Public Health bulletins account for much less than 400 new Covid-19 cases. This week there is a record four days of no fatalities and the number of active cases has been declining significantly. The past four days, there have been no deaths reported for Covid-19.

The Health Cabinet has removed the curfew in the National District and the province of La Altagracia (Punta Cana). The drop in cases is attributed to the effects of the aggressive National Vaccination Plan. The numbers of people getting vaccinated, nevertheless, has plummeted.

The Ministry of Public Health officers say lots of people are waiting for the health officials to bring the vaccine to them, as occurred during other past vaccination campaigns, such as with polio. To counteract the situation, the Ministry of Public health has announced that vaccination teams are now going door to door on weekends, and that, so far, this program has shown positive results. Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera said that the ministry would continue to carry out the vaccine outreach program. Indeed, the program has turned around the consistent decline in persons vaccinated. Vaccinations had dropped to 20,506 on 17 August and are now reported to be 27,021 for the 20 August cut.

The Ministry of Public Health urges the population to continue preventive measures. The Ministry carefully monitors the expected entry of the Delta variant of the disease that has spiked cases in the United States and other countries abroad. The government lab is carrying out tests constantly to locate cases of this variant and promptly take actions.
