Moca and Pedernales could be the next provinces to be curfew-free

Vaccinations have been slow in happening in August, and the seven-day rolling average from 13 August to 19 August is now at 26,020 compared to 65,440 for 13 July to 19 July, a month ago. But the carrot of curfew-free times is being dangled to encourage Dominicans to get vaccinated. President Luis Abinader has said that provinces where 70% or more of the population is fully vaccinated (two doses) are eligible for the removal of curfew. So far, only the National District (capital city) and La Altagracia (Punta Cana) have made the cut.

The Ministry of Public Health in its 19 August 2021 vaccination report states the next provinces to see no curfew are likely to be Espaillat (Moca) with 63.2% fully vaccinated and Pedernales with 62.3%. San Pedro de Macoris (Juan Dolio) follows with 58.7%, Puerto Plata has 58.6%, La Romana 58.5%, Independencia 56.8% and San Jose de Ocoa 55.2%. Also, Barahona has 55.2%, Dajabon 55.1%, Monte Plata 53.0%, Montecristi 52.9%, Baoruco 52.6%, Valverde 51.8%, Santiago Rodriguez 51.4%, San Juan de la Maguana 51.0%, Azua 50.9% and Peravia 50.09%. All other provinces are under 50%.
