
Education Minister Roberto Fulcar announced the 2021-2022 school year will begin on Wednesday 1 September, with public schools reopening for in-person learning on Monday, 20 September 2021. The school year is scheduled to end on 29 July 2022.
Minister Fulcar emphasized that while the school calendar is flexible, any changes must be authorized by the Ministry of Education.
Private schools are expected to start earlier than the public schools under Covid-19 protocols.
The Dominican Pediatrics Society recommends families watch for the students’ mental health after these return to classes following a year of remote learning. The pediatricians urge the continued use of face masks and that students, teachers and staff and parents all be vaccinated.
The National Vaccination Plan calls for a full course of Pfizer vaccination for all students 12 years and more. The pediatricians also urge parents to check the full vaccination program for their children to ensure this has been kept to avoid other childhood diseases that vaccines can prevent.
