RD$11.5 billion asphalt corruption case submitted to the Attorney General

The Ethics and Government Integrity Department of the Presidency (DIGEIG) and the Procurement Agency (DGCP) presented to the Attorney General Office the file on alleged irregularities committed with the contracting of RD$11.5 billion for the purchase of hot asphalt concrete by former Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo.

During a visit to the Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito, Ethics director, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch and Public Contracting Agency director Carlos Pimentel said there is sufficient evidence of irregularities and violations to the Procurement Law 340-06 to incriminate former Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo. Castillo would leave the position to campaign for the presidency for then ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

The asphalt case had been filed by Lidio Cadet, Ortiz Bosch’s predecessor at the DIGEIG.
