
Seventeen more civil registries will issue birth certificates that do not require the tedious legalization step. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced on 30 August 2021 that with these 17, there are now 54 civil registries offices offering the fast-tracked service under the Elimination of the Legalization of Civil Status Records (ETLA) initiative. In addition to not requiring the additional legalization step, these documents no longer have an expiration date.
The new offices are located in the National District (Naco), Cotuí, Nagua, Cabrera, Jarabacoa, Constanza, Salcedo, Luperón, Pimentel, San Víctor, Villa Bisonó, Las Matas de Farfán, Neiba, Bohechío, Pedro Santana, Pedernales and Oviedo.
The JCE says that in the first 104 working days of the pilot program, of 305,427 requested, 302,803 validated certificates were issued under the new scheme.
The program began in May 2021 and now encompasses most of the largest civil registry offices in the country.
The JCE also reported extending the working hours at Civil Status Offices and Service Centers in Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago. Last week, working hours had been extended in San Francisco de Macoris, San Cristóbal, Bonao and Higuey.
