DR and UK sign technical and scientific cooperation agreement

The Ministry of Economy and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in the Dominican Republic signed a technical and scientific cooperation memorandum of understanding on 30 August 2021.

The agreement promotes technical and scientific cooperation in areas of common interest and is aligned with the priorities established in both governments’ strategies for economic and social development. The agreement contemplates the participation of agencies and institutions as well as universities and non-governmental organizations.

The document was signed by Economy Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton for the Dominican government and UK Ambassador Mockbul Ali OBE for the United Kingdom.

Minister Ceara Hatton pointed out that the signing is a milestone in the bilateral cooperation relationship with the United Kingdom and reflects the interest and commitment to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two governments. He emphasized that this is a new opportunity to promote actions focused on the priorities defined by the government regarding health, education, security, water and sanitation.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Mockbul Ali OBE indicated that the objective of both countries is to promote economic and social development based on technical, financial and scientific cooperation. The ambassador stressed that cooperation in these areas is fundamental and allows the exchange of experiences and access to the necessary capacity to formulate programs, projects and specific development plan actions.

He said that the agreement is a testimony of the commitment of the government of Great Britain to the Latin American and Caribbean region to broaden the scope in cooperation and trade throughout the region and seek joint solutions after its exit from the European Union.

Also present at the signing ceremony held at the premises of the Ministry of Economy were Olaya Dotel Caraballo, Deputy Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy; Gerson Pérez Álvarez, director of Trade and Investment of the Embassy of the United Kingdom; José Luis Morillo, director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy; Gilberto Reynoso, director of the Water Cabinet; Rosanna Arias Tejeda, general director of Bilateral Cooperation and Pamela Polanco, in charge of the Bilateral Cooperation Negotiation Department at the Ministry of Economy.
