Weather forecasters say that the Dominican Republic will be under the effects of Sahara Dust clouds through Saturday, 4 September 2021. The dust clouds intensify the summer heatwave. Air conditioning demand is at a peak nationwide as people seek relief from the humidity and swelteringly hot temperatures during days and nights.
Weather and health authorities recommend that people wear light clothing, use sunscreen, and drink lots of water to better survive the heatwave and humidity. The public health authorities also recommend mopping floors first with water before sweeping to avoid dispersing Sahara dust in the house. The Ministry of Public Health says that the dust can cause temporary eye irritation and recommends frequent face washing and protective glasses and hydrating eye drops.
Persons that suffer from asthma and allergies should wear facial masks and take other measures that are already recommended to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
