The Court of Appeals of the National District retracted the order of arrest against economist Andres (Andy) Dauhajre for his no show at a hearing to revoke a filing of a case against him made by the past Attorney General authorities. Dauhajre showed up at the court on 2 September 2021 and committed to appear at the next hearing. Lawyer Guido Gomez Mazara filed the case on grounds of evidence of Dauhajre’s alleged irregular participation in Odebrecht construction deals. Dauhajre’s company, Baker Street Financial was included in a list of alleged payments that the Brazilian company Odebrecht would have made as ascertained by the investigations by journalist Alicia Ortega of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
Lawyer and politician Guido Gómez Mazara and the representative of the National Foundation for Civil Rights, Domingo Rojas Pereyra objected the closing of the investigation. Gómez Mazara is also a former legal advisor to former President Hipólito Mejía.
As reported in Listin Diario, on 26 December 2021, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) notified Gomez Mazara and Rojas Pereyra of the definitive filing of the investigation process regarding the contract between the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) and Andres Dauhajre for US$750,000,00, and in which the company Baker Street Financial and Fincastle Enterprises LTD, appear receiving millionaire amounts in favor of the economist and the purchase of an apartment in New York City.
Dauhajre appealed the decision of the judge of the Fourth Court of Instruction of the National District, Solange Vásquez, who revoked a definitive file issued in his favor by the past attorney general authorities.
The case had been ordered filed when Jean Alain Rodriguez was the attorney general. Rodriguez is now in jail awaiting trial on corruption and money laundering charges.
