President Luis Abinader was photographed saluting families, couples and tourists as he toured the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, walking from Atarazana street to the Columbus Park on Friday, 3 September 2021. The Presidency last month announced the start of a US$90 million InterAmerican Development Bank program that will renovate a large number of the housing and historic buildings in the historic area.
“We must transform the Colonial City and make it a must-see for all Dominicans and tourists to develop tourism in the Dominican Republic,” were the words of President Luis Abinader when starting the tour of the Colonial City.
The President said that to know the history of this iconic destination, which has so much to offer, is to know the country’s history. He referred to the Colonial City as a place full of history, museums and culinary attractions. He said the new initiative will benefit of businesses, residents and visitors.
Abinader toured the city with the ministers of Tourism David Collado and Culture, Carmen Heredia and city mayor Carolina Mejia.
