Ministry of Tourism promotes travel to DR in New York

Tourism Minister David Collado was in New York for a presentation of the Dominican Republic as a destination to more than 200 travel agencies and tour operators of New York State. The event was held at the Light House at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

Collado thanked the travel agencies and tour operators for their support. “Thank you because with every airline seat or every room you sell, you are helping a Dominican family. That is why it is so important for us to work hand in hand with all of you; the large, medium and small agencies, who are the strategic partners that allow us to place our country among the favorite destinations for Americans,” said the minister.

Collado highlighted that the Dominican Republic is the number 1 country in the world in terms of tourism recovery and explained that this is due to compliance with the health protocols that have been in place at airports and hotels to keep Covid-19 under control.

He highlighted the widespread vaccine coverage in the Dominican Republic. At around 55% of the adult population, the Dominican Republic has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated population in the Caribbean and Central American region. In the Punta Cana tourist destination almost all of the population is vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

During the presentation, Deputy Minister of Tourism Jacqueline Mora gave statistical details on hotel occupancy and tourist arrivals and forecasts for visitor arrivals in December and January. New peaks in tourist arrivals are forecast.

Collado highlighted that the nation became the destination par excellence in the region for the film industry in the midst of the pandemic precisely because of the security guarantees offered by the country.

During the activity, videos were shown to present the attractions of Punta Cana and Bávaro, La Romana and Bayahibe, Santo Domingo, Samaná and Puerto Plata.
