The Supreme Court of Justice appointed Napoleon Estevez to be the special instruction judge for legislators under investigation regarding the Operation Falcon, a case looking into the actions of a major money laundering and international drug trafficking network that had been operating freely for more than 10 years in the Dominican Republic. Estevez had already been assigned to hear the case against deputy Rosa Amalia Pilarte (PRM-La Vega), suspect of having ties to drug trafficking. Her husband Miguel Arturo López Florencio (Miky) is arraigned on money laundering charges related to drug trafficking in Miami, Florida.

The SCJ received the accusatory Falcón file from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. After carrying out several raids in Santiago, Santo Domingo, the National District, El Seibo and La Altagracia, the prosecutors compiled the evidence to prosecute the legislators.
