Government sucks up a billion by not raising fuel prices

Over the past three weeks, the Dominican government has added a billion pesos to the fiscal debt after it has been subsidizing the high cost of imported fuels. LPG, regular and premium gasoline and diesel prices should all have increased as the world consumes more and more hydrocarbons. Some prices for fuels would have gone up over RD$20 pesos a gallon, if it were not for the government intervention.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says that the government is subsidizing fuel prices with RD$409 million from 18 to 24 September 2021.
