Record attendance in first day of school at public schools

Media reports record attendance at public schools nationwide for day one in school. Around 2.8 million students are enrolled in public schools nationwide. In-person learning resumed on 20 September 2021 in all schools nationwide. Previously, most private schools had already reopened for face-to-face classes. Schools in the Dominican Republic had been closed since March 2020. In some schools up to 90% of students attended.

Reports are that the Colegio Calasanz in the National District, that had opened weeks ago, announced it was moving to a hybrid mode, with in-person learning and remote learning after several students and teachers reported falling sick with Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the director of the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s hospital, infectologist Clemente Terrero says 14 children are hospitalized for dengue, a seasonal disease that is spread by the mosquito breeding in clean waters.
