Sinovac to be accepted for travel to USA

As the United States is under a third wave of Covid-19, the US CDC announces new rules for travel to the country. In addition to the current requirement that travelers show proof of a negative Covid-19 test (antigen or PCR) taken within 72 hours of departure to the US, the American government will soon be requiring proof of the traveler being fully vaccinated.

The good news for Dominicans is that the CDC will be accepting proof of vaccination with the Chinese-manufactured Sinovac vaccination, in addition to US brands. Around 70% of those who have been fully vaccinated for Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic have received the Chinese-manufactured Sinovac vaccine.

The United States announced that starting November 2021, any foreigner traveling to the US will need proof of vaccination. It announced that any Covid-19 vaccine approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization is accepted. This includes the US-manufactured Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson that are used in the United States. But also, the AstraZeneca and China’s Sinovac.

In the Dominican Republic, thousands have also received the two jabs of Pfizer or a booster shot with Pfizer.

The Dominican government is also making available the full dose of Pfizer for those who demonstrate they will be traveling to the United States or Europe.
