Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez met with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on 28 September 2021 at the Department of State as part of activities for the Dominican Week in Washington, DC. The talks focused on investment and trade, cooperation for combating corruption and “the work that we can do together to help find long-lasting solutions to the challenges that the Haitian people are facing.”
In the opening remarks before the meeting Secretary Blinken said: “We are extremely appreciative of the leadership that the Dominican Republic continues to show, for example, in combating corruption, really setting a standard for many countries.”
Foreign Minister Alvarez says the aim is for the countries to work even closer. “The Dominican Republic has a robust democracy which strongly believes in human rights. And of course, we stand ready to work with the United States in terms of anti-corruption, anti-authoritarianism, and for democracy and human rights.”
