
This Friday, 1 October 2021, a new Guinness record in the preparation and serving of the largest mangú (mashed plantains) will be attempted to be set at The Hudson Restaurant at 348 Dyckman St in Manhattan. From 9am to 7pm, three chefs will participate in the Flavor Fusion Fest, an event open to the general public at the New York City restaurant that has a view of the Washington Bridge and Hudson River. Admission is free, but there is a US$80 ticket price for those who want to taste the mangú and take photos with the chefs.
María Marte, two Michelin stars and celebrity chef; Amilkar Gonell, general manager, executive chef and culinary consultant for Gonell Enterprise; and Pamela Gonell, executive chef and consultant, are the Dominican chefs leading the initiative.
The standing Guinness record is 645 lbs (292.7 kg) set in New York City in 2017.
The mangu will be served from a stainless steel mold made with the silhouette of the Dominican Republic. Architect Jose Baez Liberata of BJCM Engineers Architects Builders designed the mold. It will be 12.85 square meters by 3.95 height and can hold 1,200 lbs of mangú.
Flavor Fusion Fest is an organization that champions, promotes, supports and celebrates the art of culinary experiences that bring people together. This 2021, it is an invitation to be part of history as the chefs work to establish the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of mangú.
