Abinader announces RD$42 billion for public works in Santiago

On occasion of his speaking at the opening of 34th Expo Cibao in Santiago on 29 September 2021, President Luis Abinader gave an overview of Santiago 2025, a four-year initiative that contemplates environmental, social and road works to transform the central province. The government will be investing RD$42 billion in Santiago.

The Chamber of Commerce and Production organizes expo Cibao. The trade show is held this year in the Santiago Central Park. Speaking during the event, Abinader announced the renovation of the city’s historic center to attract new investments as part of Santiago 2025 initiative. This means there will be funds to improve the Centro de Cultura, the Casa de Arte, and the Calle del Sol.

The initiative also calls for the clean-up of the Arroyo Gurabo gully and Yaque del Norte River, with new sewage pumping stations and a water treatment plant.

The Santiago 2025 contemplates constructing a modern transportation system (SITS) with a cable car, monorail, OMSA electric buses and bicycle lanes.
