Three new roads for Santiago

The government announced it is investing RD$2.7 billion to widen three important roads in the Santiago province. Public Works Minister Deligne Asención explained these roads are:

The connecting road from Cibao International Airport to the Circunvalación Norte (9 km). The road should be ready in a year’s time, will have three lanes in each direction and allow for driving at speeds under 60kph. The cost is RD$1.6 billion. The road will benefit road traffic in Santiago, Puerto Plata and the northwestern provinces.

The Gurabo-Turistic Gregorio Luperón Highway (4.58km). This road goes from the Circunvalación Norte to the Carretera Turística Gregorio Luperón, connecting Santiago with Puerto Plata. It will have two lanes in each direction and is for driving at a speed of 40 kph.

Present for the road announcement were Eduardo Estrella, president of the Senate; Rosa Santos, governor of Santiago; the administrator of Coraasan, Andrés Burgos; Víctor de Aza, general secretary of the Dominican Municipal League; Andrés Cueto, administrator of Edenorte; Ulises Rodríguez, director of ProIndustria and Manuel Estrella, president of Ingeniería Estrella, the contractor of the work.
