President Luis Abinader, Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera, Education Minister Roberto Fulcar, Administrative Minister Jose Ignacio Paliza and Santiago senator Eduardo Estrella were together for the symbolic launching of the Covid-19 vaccination program at public schools nationwide. The event took place at a public school (Instituto Tecnologico Mexico) in Santiago because that province is below the national average in terms of vaccination.
The event took place at a time when the spread of Covid-19 has risen especially in Santiago and Cibao provinces. The Ministry of Public Health attributes the spike to the spread of the Gamma variant in Santiago.
President Abinader says that vaccinations will be promoted in high schools throughout the country so that the students go home and motivate the older members of their families who may have not yet been vaccinated.
Abinader says that Covid-19 is here to stay, so vaccination, hygiene and other preventive measures are part of the new normal. He called for all citizens to fulfill their duty for their health and that of others, and for the country to return to full normalcy.
