
The Ministry of Education early on was in the news for a contest to purchase hundreds of thousands in orchids for offices. It then made headlines for violations of the procurement law in the purchase of electronic devices, and for the delay in repairs and preparations of public schools for in-person learning, and the suspension of the teacher-hiring contest held just days before the start of in-person learning in public schools when most teachers failed the written tests…. The hand-picked hiring of public school teachers is now making headlines. The string of improvisations and irregularities is long.
Now, Education Minister Roberto Fulcar denies irregularities affecting the school luncheons. Recently, Colegio Don Busco, a private-public operation, announced children would be sent home at 1pm because the school lunches program had not been begun.
Fulcar explained the delays saying that on Friday, 1 October 2021 the Instituto de Bienestar Estudiantil (Inabie), the entity in charge of contracting the luncheon suppliers, had postponed the contest.
