The father of Leslie Rosado, Jose Rosado told journalists: “People like him [Janli Disla Batista] do not deserve to even breathe on the street.” He spoke in frustration at the wake of his daughter who preliminary investigations reveal was murdered by police corporal Disla Batista. Rosado said Disla Batista fired several shots at the vehicle in which his daughter and granddaughter were traveling in Boca Chica. The 36-year old woman will be buried today.

The police corporal was off-duty. He said the woman had crashed him when he was traveling with his family on a motorcycle. This was deemed unlikely by the prosecutor who is investigating the case.

The 15-year old daughter of Leslie Rosado said they sped because they feared they were being assaulted. Disla Batista was not wearing his uniform.

Surveillance videos show two men were on the motorcycle that was in pursuit of the Mercedes Benz SUV in which mother and daughter were traveling back to Santo Domingo after celebrating the birthday of Rosado senior at the Santo Domingo Yacht Club in Boca Chica.

The investigation is continuing.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a request on 4 October 2021 against the corporal, disputing his version and that of his wife of an accident and charging him for voluntary homicide instead. “The evidence collected so far shows a chase, as well as shots totally incompatible with an involuntary act, as indicated by a version that has been circulating since early Sunday morning,” says the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The accused policeman says that the shot that killed the woman was involuntary.

There is a man on the run who a video shows was riding with Disla Batista when the off-duty corporal was in pursuit of the SUV.

Media and influential persons are calling for an acceleration of the reform of the Police.
