Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera says that only 29 of the more recent 31 deaths registered for Covid-19 were not fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Dr. Rivera said that of the 31, 29 did not have a single dose.
He told the press that only 1 person of 68 years of age who had received a single dose of the Sinovac vaccine had died, but that person also suffered from hypertension, diabetes and pneumonia.
In a press conference on Wednesday, 20 October, Dr. Rivera said that 60.1% of the Dominican population has at least two doses of vaccine. He expressed satisfaction that now all provinces have at least 50% of their population with the two doses. Monseñor Nouel (Bonao) has the lowest vaccination coverage, with 50.7% vaccinated with the two doses.
Dr. Rivera is optimistic the new measures that have encouraged people to get vaccinated will lead the country to reach the 70% fully vaccinated target. The number of persons getting vaccinated as tripled after the government announced that government offices, banks and shopping businesses would be requesting people present the vaccination card to enter.
