Get vaccinated and collect RD$1,000 in Santiago. The province has one of the lowest rates for large cities in number of persons fully vaccinated. Only 53.9% of the Santiago province population has the two doses, compared to 87.8% in the capital city of Santo Domingo, according to the 19 October vaccine update.
Now Mayor Abel Martínez wants to use the cash to convince those who have been reticent to get vaccinated. The cash will be handed out at the Santiago city government building in Santiago on Wednesday, 27 October from 8am to 4pm. The city town hall is located at Av. Juan Pablo Duarte 85, Santiago De Los Caballeros.
Martínez is a former president of the Chamber of Deputies. He ran for mayor for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and is a strong supporter of the PLD returning to the presidency in 2024. He also aspires to be the PLD presidential candidate in the next general elections.
Already, nationwide, the mandating of the obligation to show the vaccination card to enter banks and shopping malls has been working. The number of those getting vaccinated has more than tripled those in early October.
