Nepotism rears its ugly head in PRM government

A not-really-new element has again appeared on the political scene: nepotism. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco (PRM-National District) lashed out and denounced that many government officials were only trying to get jobs for their family and friends, much to the disgust of out-of-work ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) membership.

This is the same Alfredo Pacheco who presides the Chamber of Deputies that last week held a work session where the daughter of Interior & Police Minister Jesus (Chu) Vasquez was chosen for the top-paying job as head of the Pro Competencia agency. The ruling PRM is majority in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

After a year in power, the PRM has not been able to satisfy its rank and file members with jobs within the government. In the opinion of Pacheco, party leaders and members of the administration need to try and find jobs for the party members that worked to get the PRM elected. Yet, he was highly critical of those that employed family and friends.
