The Dominican Republic will take a leading role in FITUR 2022 as a partner country for the Spanish international tourism fair. Fitur is the first of travel promotional events scheduled for 2022, the year of tourism recovery.
The Dominican Republic got a head start betting on a fast recovery of its industry since airports reopened in July 2020. Last Tuesday, 19 October 2021, President Luis Abinader and Eduardo López-Puertas, director general of IFEMA MADRID at a press conference in the Dominican Republic the new initiative to strengthen the country’s positioning as the regional tourism lead destination.
Tourism Minister David Collado said that with initiatives like this one, the Dominican Republic is “three or four steps ahead of the countries in the region.” Collado appreciated that the Dominican Republic has become a “world benchmark” in management during the pandemic, in part for having collaborated in decision-making with the private sector, and recognizing in particular the role of Spanish companies that own 60,000 rooms in the country.
“Starting 2022 by validating the country’s commitment to the industry will be a firm step in the year of the beginning of the total recovery of tourism. But it will not be just any year, we expect the best season the Dominican Republic has ever had,” said President Abinader when making the announcement.
This is the second time that the Dominican Republic will participate as a partner of Fitur, after 2019, and it will do so in an edition that will be “the most important in its history,” as Eduardo López-Puertas, director, said at the same event.
López-Puertas stressed that the Dominican Republic, as a Fitur partner, will gain visibility and will be able to use the showcase of the fair to expand markets, especially those in Europe and Asia.
Being a partner country will allow the Dominican Republic to have more space at the fair and in advertising campaigns, as well as representation at the opening of the event.
Abinader forecast 2022 will be a record year for Dominican tourism.
FITUR 2022 is promoted as a lever to stimulate tourism activity at a time when there are clear signs of improvement, when travel is making a comeback.
Fitur promotions state that this is the ideal time to count on the stellar presence of the Dominican Republic, a country that has already become a global benchmark in terms of tourism recovery. The fair organizers indicate that the gradual normalization of tourism activity has the support of the Spanish Government’s declaration that FITUR is an Event of Exceptional Public Interest. With the backing of the entire value chain of the international tourism industry, FITUR 2022 is an exceptional stage for opening of new avenues for expansion and business opportunities for the Dominican Republic in the European and Asian markets.
