Iberia has more flights to DR now than before the pandemic

Iberia Airlines is celebrating its 75th anniversary of flying to Latin America adding more frequencies to its flights to the Dominican Republic, a destination served since 1967. Víctor Moneo, Iberia’s Latin American Sales and Institutional Agreements director, told Aviacionline that the Dominican Republic is the first destination in Latin America to offer more Iberia frequencies than before the pandemic.

Covid-19 pandemic shut down regular flights to the Dominican Republic from March to July 2020. Gradually, travel has resumed and bookings for Dominican destinations are strong and increasing.

As reported, Madrid (MAD)-Santo Domingo (SDQ) is the Iberia route that recovered demand the most rapidly. In response, the airline has been increasing its frequencies. From a daily flight in December 2020, nine flights began to be available in May 2021, then ten in June 2021 and 11 weekly flights for summer.

Come November 2021, Iberia is adding two more flights to make it 13 weekly frequencies. The operation is with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with a capacity for 292 passengers: 29 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 242 in Economy, and a greater cargo capacity (20 tons).

The Iberia flights schedule is:
IB 6501 MAD 11:45 am – 3:50 pm SDQ: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thrusday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

IB 6500 SDQ 5:20 pm – 6:35 am +1 MAD: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

IB 6503 MAD 4:45 pm – 8:50 pm SDQ: daily

IB 6502 SDQ 10:20 pm – 11:35 am +1 MAD:

Iberia will be flying to Punta Cana (PUJ) with a direct flight from Barcelona on Saturdays, returning on Sundays.

The director of Las Americas International Airport, Monika Infante has praise for the role Iberia has played in the recovery of air traffic. She highlighted Iberia is the leader in connectivity in Europe today.

The flight capacity is now there. The Dominican Republic will be promoting its tourism destinations during the Fitur Travel Fair in Madrid, Spain this coming January 2022. The DR was chosen partner country for the leading travel exhibition and booking event.
