Customs tax collections up to new highs

The director of Customs (DGA), Eduardo (Yayo) Sanz Lovatón says DGA revenues have climbed to historic levels over the past three months. He said that in the last five months collections have increased an average of RD$1 billion per month. He attributed this to the climate of confidence generated by the Abinader administration.

Sanz Lovatón said that they are currently collecting 23% more than in pre-pandemic year 2019.

Sanz Lovatón made the remarks during the event to launch the new “MOR” Risk Engine technological platform. This modern system streamlines customs processes for cargo inspection, achieving significant savings in goods inspection times. President Luis Abinader attended the event.

Sanz Lovatón described the new platform as a high-precision tool that takes data from customs declarations and analyzes the export and import data before the goods arrive or leave the country’s ports and airports.

Eduardo Sanz Lovatón explained that previously 49.9 % of the cargo arriving and leaving the country had to be physically inspected because there were no tools available. Now physical verification is only carried out to 20% of the cargo.
