The United States government has amended the travel advisory on the Dominican Republic, downgrading the country due to Covid-19 to Level 3 – Reconsider Travel. The announcement coincides with a new wave of cases affecting most of the country. Most businesses in the Dominican Republic are open, and tourism is enjoying a boom in arrivals and bookings.
The US State Department travel advisory change was issued on 25 October 2021. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has four levels:
- Exercise normal precaution
- Exercise increased caution;
- Reconsider travel;
- Do not travel.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that it has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice Level due to Covid-19, indicating a high level of COVID-19 in the country. It advises travelers that the risk of contracting Covid-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower “if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine”.
