ADP blasts Ministry of Education for irregularities in teacher hiring

The Ministry of Education is again making headlines. This time for the handpicking of teachers after a national teachers contest was suspended following the mass failing of teachers of the standardized tests. Diario Libre reports that the Ministry has appointed 10,000 teachers so far.

The new president of the Dominican Teachers Association, the collective of public school teachers, rejects the selection. Eduardo Hidalgo says the law requires that the teachers be hired in a public contest. Hidalgo, who takes office on 18 November 2021, says “no” to the selective contracts, and “yes” to a fair and transparent competition for all education professionals. He said the ADP under his leadership will demand a date be set to resume the competition.
