Inabie legal director suspended for investigation into school luncheon irregularities

The director of the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie), Cecilio Rodríguez announced that the Inabie legal counsel, Andrés Montero, is suspended after a whirlwind of alleged irregularities in the bids for school lunch hit the media. Inabie is a division of the Ministry of Education.

Rodriguez said the Inabie will always act according to the law and that there will be no sacred cows in the agency.

He announced that Education Minister Roberto Fulcar had named a committee to investigate the whole bidding process carried out for the school lunches for the current school year. He said he expects the investigation will demonstrate that the bidding process was carried out respecting the due process and adhering to the procurement and contracting regulations.

The accusations against the legal process of the institution were presented recently by journalists Julissa Cespedes of CDN and on Somos Pueblo TV.
