
Brian de Peña won the mayor seat for Lawrence, a city that has a large Dominican population in the state of Massachusetts.
In New York City, City Council Member Antonio Reynoso was elected Brooklyn Borough President. And several Dominican democratic candidates swept the 2 November election and won seats on the New York City Council. The elected officers will assume on 1 January 2022.
The city council winners are:
Carmen N de la Rosa defeated fellow Dominican Edwin de la Cruz (Republican) in the general election for New York City Council District 10.
Pierina Sanchez defeated Shemeen Chappel l in the general election for New York City Council District 14. Sanchez was born in New York, New York. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in 2010 and a graduate degree from Princeton University in 2014.
Oswald Feliz defeated Ariel Rivera-Diaz in the general election for New York City Council District 15 on 2 November 2021. He had assumed office on 15 April 2021 and his current term ends on 31 December 2021.
Shaun Abreu was elected a member of the New York City Council, representing District 7.
Amanda Farias defeated Lamont Paul in the general election for New York City Council District 18 on 2 November 2021. She earned a B.A. in political science and government with a minor in international studies and an M.A. in international relations and affairs with minors in political theory and public administration from Saint John’s University. She ran for the position in 2017. At that time she was the director of special projects for New York City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.
Christopher Marte was elected New York Cil Council, representing District 1. He had also ran for the position in 2017. He was born in New York, New York. He co-founded the organization Neighbors United Below Canal, which describes its mission as to advocate “against Mayor de Blasio’s proposal to build the tallest jail in the world, standing 490 ft. tall at 124-125 White St. He defeated Maud Maron and Jacqueline Toboroff in the general election for New York City Council District 1 on 2 November 2021.
Antonio Reynoso was re-elected member of the New York City Council, representing District 34. He is a member of the council since 2013. He defeated Menachem Raitport, Anthony Jones and Shanduke McPhatter in the general election for Brooklyn Borough President on 2 November 2021. His current term ends on 31 December 2021. He holds a B.S. in political science from LeMoyne College. He has worked as a community organizer for the New York City Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
