Teacher hiring contest resumes; those who failed can test again

The Ministry of Education announces it is resuming the public teachers hiring contest on Monday, 8 November 2021. The Ministry says that those who want to participate need to register online on 4-6 November to participate in the competition. The competition was suspended in September when most of the teachers failed the standardized test.

There are 19,000 vacancies for high school teachers for the 2021-2022 school year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education had been hiring teachers. This was protested by the newly elected head of the Public School Association (ADP), Eduardo Hidalgo.

The 48-hour registration period begins this Thursday, 4 November and ends on Saturday, 6 November . In this way, if the applicant has completed the requirements of the documents to be submitted, he/she will be formally registered and admitted to the process, according to a press release.

The Deputy Minister for Technical and Pedagogical Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Ligia Pérez Peña said when making the announcement in person that those who had failed the test in September can register to take the test again.

The Ministry says that from 4-6 November, the documentation submitted online will be validated and the applicants will be notified on the status by e-mail. To date, 77,000 applicants are registered, says the Ministry of Education.

Prior to the start of the testing phase, on Friday, 5 November, the National Competitive Examination Committee those registered can prepare for the test using an online instructional tutorial, developed to facilitate the understanding and use of the platform.

The Moodle tutorial seeks that teachers, guidance counselors and school principals who will be chosen on the basis of their merits and competencies in the contest, reduce their levels of nervousness and stress by familiarizing themselves with the testing platform in a relaxed environment, with adequate tools to prepare for the test.

The committee says that as of Monday, 8 November, classrooms will be available to offer training and practices with the Moodle platform, the same one used for the competitive examinations. The Moodle platform is endorsed for learning and training processes by numerous universities and foreign companies with millions of users.

For these purposes, the Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU), with its 29 universities, is offering free access to the IT laboratories of its universities to prepare the applicants for the test.

The Ministry of Education explains that the auditing firm Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) is providing technical support. The contest is also observed by members of the Committee of Observers of the National Teacher Competitive Examination, which comprises organizations from civil society and the education sector, including IDEC, EDUCA, ADRU, ADOU CODUE, among others.

The testing phase then begins on 12 November, at educational centers nationwide. The Ministry will notify by email the applicants where the teachers need to go to be tested.

Competency-based interviews will be carried out in the second phase of the testing from 1 December 2021 to 3 January 2022.
