President Abinader visits La Altagracia

President Luis Abinader went East on Sunday, 7 November 2021 to inaugurate public works, supervise others and launch road works in La Altagracia province, best known for its Punta Cana tourism area.

The President first went to the General and Specialties Hospital Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia (HGENSA) to inaugurate a chemotherapy unit.

Next, he visited the San Dionisio Sanctuary in Higuey, and ordered its restoration. The Roman Catholic church is located in front of the Central Park in Higuey and dates back to 1572 when it displayed the image of the Lady of High Grace (Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia), for which the province is named. The image is now at the Higuey Basilica.

The President then stopped at the Divina Providencia Home for the Elderly, where he listened to the senior center authorities tell of their needs and promised government support.

After midday, the President and Public Works Minister of Public Works Deligne Ascensión gave the go ahead to the start of construction of the La Otra Banda bypass, a 10 km extension that will cost RD$871.7 million. There, the public works minister spoke of the benefits of this important road to continue developing tourism in the Punta Cana area.

Public Works Minister Ascensión said the government would start paving important streets in Higuey, the La Altagracia province capital.

Then, Abinader participated in the inauguration of the second phase of the Higüey City Homes housing project, an affordable housing project in charge of the TCRealtors Group and Concremax.

Later in the day, the President inaugurated the Jobo Dulce-Higüey, an 8.5km road, built at a cost of RD$336 million pesos by Soilab Engineering Consulting Group.

Around 2pm, the President had a lunch break with the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) leadership in La Altagracia province. He was accompanied by Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who is president of the PRM.

Next, the President attended the formal inauguration of the Hotel AC Marriott Punta Cana. He was accompanied by Tourism Minister David Collado.

At the end of the day, he supervised the road under construction in the area known as El Bateque that connects to El Cocotal.
