“The United States continues to lead as a country of origin of tourists to the Dominican Republic. More than 40% of the tourists who visit us are from the United States, hence our efforts to strengthen these markets,” said Collado in Chicago, where he met with 150 travel agents and tour operators and signed important cooperation agreements.
In Orlando, in the state of Florida, Collado led meetings with 140 tour operators and travel agents, who pledged to work so that more American tourists continue to choose the Dominican Republic as their favorite vacation destination.
“It is good for them to know that health, well-being and joy are guaranteed for those who visit us. That is why we have achieved a true recovery of the tourism industry in the Dominican Republic,” said the official in Orlando, as reported in a Ministry of Tourism press release.
Collado said the sustained growth registered by the industry is evidence of the recovery of tourism in this Caribbean country.
He stated that in October alone the Dominican Republic received 443,018 non-resident visitors, which is equivalent to an increase of 220% over the same month of 2019, 19% of 2019 and 7% of 2018.
“We are talking about the best October ever recorded in the history of Dominican tourism and even more so if you take into account the moment we are living in,” he said.
Collado also highlighted that from January to October, 3,669,761 non-resident visitors arrived in the country by air alone.
“It’s good for you to know that 50% of the tourists who visited us, by air, last October are from the United States. That is why we continue to do everything necessary to ensure that we remain a favorite destination for Americans,” said Collado during his meetings in Chicago and Orlando.
