World Basketball Cup Qualifier to take place in Santo Domingo

The Dominican basketball team will play Bahamas, Canada and the US Virgin Islands (Group C) in the initial qualifier for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. The FIBA Cup is to be played in Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan in 2023. The Dominican Republic plays in Group C of the Americas.

The qualifier matches will be Sunday, 28 November and Monday, 29 November and they will be played at the Palacio de Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo. The matches will be at 5pm and 8pm.

Rafael Uribe, president of Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) says that the fourth Americas Qualifier will take place again in Santo Domingo from 22 to 30 August 2022. He said this would be the ideal scenario for the three Dominican NBA players to play for the Dominican Republic. Uribe says Fedombal is keeping in close contact with possible players Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves), Alfred Horford (Boston Celtics) and Chris Duarte (Indiana Pacers). Both Towns and Horford have already played for the Dominican Republic.
