The Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) presented awards for Export Resilience 2021 to seven successful exporters for initiatives that have contributed to the country’s social development. The awards had the backing of the Ministry of Industry & Commerce.
President Luis Abinader and Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó and the presidents of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, and Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco were present for the award ceremony.
On the occasion of the 49th anniversary of Adoexpo, the awards recognized companies for outstanding efforts at keeping their exports going in the pandemic year, and for those who reinvented themselves, making contributions to society, explained Adoexpo president Elizabeth Mena.
The companies recognized with the Resiliient Exporter Award were:
Asociación de Productores de Piña de Monte Plata, in the SME category; the Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI), in the agro-industrial category; and Laboratorios Rowe, as a resilient exporter in free trade zones.
Likewise, Plastifar, in the industrial category; Cementos Cibao, in the extractive category; Marítima Dominicana (MARDOM), in the service category; and the software development company Intellisys D. Corp, in the modern services category, also received awards.
The president of Adoexpo, Elizabeth Mena, highlighted that this year exports broke records, despite the pandemic, logistical problems and other challenges in the production areas, which demonstrated the great resilience of Dominican exporters.
Mena said exports for January-October totaled US$9,738,832,312, for a growth of 20.74% compared to the same period in 2020, and 16.64% in relation to 2019.
The business leader predicted that this 2021 exports will close with a volume of some US$11.88 billion, a 20.5% growth if compared to 2020, and 17.51%, compared to 2019.
Free zone exports are driving force behind Dominican exports.
During the event, Mena gave details on the new tool Export Check Up. The new information platform will allow exporters to verify their level of compliance with export rules and take the necessary measures to access and maintain themselves in the most rigorous markets. Adoexpo is working with the Instituto de Normas Técnicas de Costa Rica (INTECO), to develop the Export Check Up tool.
Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó spoke of how during the first two quarters of 2021 Dominican exports have shown an increase of 28% over 2020 and an increase of 5% over 2019, reflecting a significant post pandemic recovery.
The official expressed that “with this recognition, along with the other categories in the area of goods, we are truly showing signs of inclusion and equal support for all sectors that move the country and energize the economy.”
