Cruise ship travel recovers; Taino Bay port to open in December

Cruise ship passengers are returning. Amber Cove port in Puerto Plata reports it has bookings for docking of 18 cruise ships in November 2021. This could bring the total of maritime tourists to 100,000 so far this year.

The Carnival Elation, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Pride and Carnival Horizon have made stops from the beginning of November. Carnival Mardi Gras and Carnival Magic have also made stops at the Puerto Plata terminal.

The Nieuw Amsterdam is scheduled to make a first stop on 16 November at Amber Cove.

On Thursday 18, the Carnival Magic and Carnival Freedom cruise ships will arrive twice and the Carnival Horizon on Friday 19 and the Carnival Freedom on Monday 22. On Tuesday 23, the Rotterdam cruise ship will arrive for the first time. Carnival Mardi Gras will return on Wednesday 24, Carnival Elation and Carnival Horizon on Thursday 25, and Carnival Magic on Friday 26.

The itinerary of cruise ship arrivals at the Amber Cove terminal continues on Monday 29th with the arrival of the Carnival Elation and ends on Tuesday 30th when the Nieuw Statendam docks in Puerto Plata

Maritime tourism in Puerto Plata is expected to pick up pace again when Taino Bay Port, the province’s second maritime port, opens to cruise ship operations on 15 December. The port is located around half an hour driving time from Amber Cove, right in the city of Puerto Plata.
