The Army reported the arrest of a Dominican truck driver who was transporting 44 undocumented Haitians. The 32 Haitian men and 12 Haitian women had no identity documents.
Edward Rafael Santana Sosa, a resident of Martin Garcia in Santiago Rodriguez province was arrested.
Santana Sosa was caught transporting the Haitian nationals in a red Daihatsu truck, license plate number L130668.
People smuggling is a millionaire business in the Dominican Republic.
Recently, TV investigative journalist Alicia Ortega aired a report where a former migration inspector Jesus Manuel Rodríguez tells of irregularities he was ordered to investigate and denounced and almost lost his life for telling. The case was not investigated and Rodríguez had to migrate fearing for his life.
