Agriculture Minister proud of abundance in farm produce

“Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat.” This 140-year-old song about the Christmas season is good to remember. The second line reminds all to be generous: “Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.”

That said, Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz Lopez assures the population that there is plenty of produce for the holiday celebrations. He noted that there are over two million pounds of pork, and over 100 million pounds of poultry for the December to January feast. He also proudly noted that the most recent rice harvest produced over 13 million quintals (1.3 billion pounds) and that is sufficient for the country for the next six months. All of the other “fixins” such as potatoes, onions, garlic, and plantains are plentiful.

This bodes well for the Christmas season. Bon appetite!
