
The Dominican Republic placed 13th of 28 participants in the Pan American Youth Games that took place 25 November to 5 December 2021 in Cali, Colombia. Dominican athletes won four gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals.
Among the highlights of the Dominican participation in Cali was the gold won by Rosa Angélica Ramírez Santana, in shot put throw. She set a national record with 17.70 meters.
Fiordaliza Cofil won gold in the 400m dash clocking in at 52.10. Cofil was part of the 4×400 mixed relay that won silver in the Tokyo Olympics (Luguelin Santos, Emilio Feliz, Marileidy Paulino, Alexander Ogando and Anabel Medina).
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Felix Sánchez and Yassen Perez are the coaches of the Dominican athletics team.
Judo was the most outstanding sport during the event with eight medals. Athletics turned in five, weightlifting and wresting three each. Dominicans also won medals in gymnastics, boxing, baseball and 3×3 basketball.
