Luz del Alba Jimenez Ramirez was fired this week after an investigation showed evidence of irregularities in a procurement procedure at the Ministry of Youth. The former legal advisor to the Ministry of Youth had revealed evidence of attempts by the husband of the minister to sway a procurement bid in his favor. Jimenez Ramirez subsequently fired him, but then she, too, was fired.
Now, it is known that the husband of the minister, Kelvin Fidel Mendez Cuevas has been dismissed by the rector of the ITSC, Francisco Vegazo Ramirez. In March 2021, TV journalist Addis Burgos had reported in detail on the long list of relatives and friends of former Youth Minister Luz del Alba Jimenez Ramirez that were employed in one place, the Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario (ITSC), a community college.
Social media and news analysts have been recommending the government shut down the Ministry of Youth. President Luis Abinader has yet to name a replacement for Luz del Alba Jimenez. Jimenez had replaced fhe first minister of Youth, Kinsberly Taveras, after an investigation into her unusual wealth came to the open. No outcome is known of this investigation.
