UASD graduates first 39 in ethical journalism

President Luis Abinader was present for the graduation of the 39 participants of a special course on Ethical Journalism by the state university (UASD) with local and foreign professors. Speaking at the event at the UASD, President Abinader highlighted the great responsibility journalists have to narrate daily news events while keeping to high ethical standards.

“We want an independent and free press, but we also increasingly need ethical journalists. The world they are now going to narrate is a world full of hope and opportunities, but also a complex and difficult one. That is why you will need everything you have learned in this course to not loose your bearings and always arrive at the right place,” said the head state when speaking to the graduates.

The rector of the UASD, Emma Polanco, and Superior Education Minister Franklin García Fermín said the special course was part of a broad government action plan to ensure that ethics be present in the practice of all professionals and to maintain the commitment to respect the truth, freedom and the use of fair methods in reporting the news.
