Ministry of Education defends its teacher hiring competition

The Ministry of Education presented the preliminary results of the National Teacher Competitive Examination 2021 on Thursday, 9 December 2021. The authorities defended the rigorousness used in the process after members of the oversight committee, including major universities, abandoned the process. The oversight members argued they had not been supplied with adequate documentation to do their work appropriately.

The Ministry of Education’s contest technical coordinator Julissa Hernández said they cannot act on public rumors and Facebook screens and required the irregularities be documented properly.

Hernandez explained that so far about 50% of 73,000 applicants have been evaluated or are in the process of being evaluated.

The percentage of pre-qualified applicants at the primary level for all regions reached 37% of the universe. Meanwhile, in the pre-school level, an overall percentage of 21% of pre-qualified candidates was obtained, the official report indicates.

The director of the Educa pro-education non-governmental organization, Edwin Caraballo, was present for the presentation.
