DR sets Guinness Record for The World’s Largest Bachata Dance

The Guinness World Record title for The World’s Largest Bachata Dance” is now rightfully owned by the Dominican Republic. 500 couples danced bachata simultaneously to break the record of 480 that Poland had held since June 2019.

The bachata dance was declared by Unesco an intangible cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic.

With the support of the Mayor’s Office of the National District and the Ministry of Culture, producer Alberto Zayas organized the event “Un Record pa’ la Bachata” on Saturday, 11 December 2021 on the Malecón at 5pm. It was televised by Telesistema, Channel 11.

500 couples danced for five uninterrupted minutes to the song “Pena por ti” by the legendary singer-composer Luis Segura, during the event that took place on the Malecón.

“Dominican Republic takes the Guinness World Record away from Poland!”, Susana Reyes, official representative of Guinness World Records announced with joy. She said only two couples were disqualified.

Choreographers Marcos Taveras and Laura Ramirez prepared the dancers for several months.

The previous largest bachata dance of 480 pairs was organized by Jaroslaw Nakraszewicz (Poland) in Wroclaw, Poland, on 8 June 2019. This record was achieved during a charitable event organized by Jaroslaw.
