
Columbia University professor Xavier Sala-i-Martin, creator of the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index and one of the most influential economists on economic growth and development, met with President Luis Abinader to discuss the economy today. During the visit to the country, he met with government officers to discuss the post-pandemic economy, and aspects in which the Dominican Republic must focus to become a more developed, competitive and inclusive nation.
The Presidency reported that during the meeting with President Abinader, Sala-i-Martin congratulated the Dominican President for his administration, and recognized the focus on economic growth and institutional strengthening of the state, which has been reflected in the different socio-political and economic indicators, and by the support of international organizations and positive rating by global risk agencies.
